I'm starting something new, and it's totally John Mayes inspired. I'm
building an amp - a close of a Matchless Lightning (which is a vox ac15
on steroids).

Last sunday I spoke with my church and worked out a deal where they'd
buy my cymbals (I play drums there) and I could put the money into
exploring some electric guitar things that really interest me. I'll be putting
the initial chunk into this amp.

At first it was really intimidating. I don't know anything about electronics
and have a hard time getting into the proper frame of thinking. But after
two days of researching, I've found a few layout diagrams, parts lists, and
general understanding to make me comfortable enough to order things.
When I get started I'll post all the resources I'm using.

It's also going to be pretty. I'm going to strip away some faceplate
things. For example, the tone controls will have "zero" to "full" rather
than 1 2 3 4 5... I'm also going to sketch out a small mountain range to
have in the open space.

Interesting. Did your research lead you to a particular company that sells the plans and components? I've been considering building an acoustic amp but haven't really dug into it yet.

Good luck on the project and be sure to keep us updated on the progress.

It did actually. I found two layouts that are very similar from http://
trinityamps.com and http://ceriatone.com. Ceria is in Japan or
something like that, and ships to USA.

I found the parts Here and www.hoffmanamps.com">here to be the best priced.

I know alot of good places to get amplifers part -{trannies caps and chassis etc} Stephen at Trinity is a great guy to deal with and has a variety of Matchless inspried stuff clones and trannies and boards etc for builds.
I am sort of simultaneously studying ampbuilding and repair right now as well as luthiery -
{I wanna corner the building and repair market - no just kidding it just interests me}
I have tons of information on electronics {books whose copyrights have expired, but are still very relevant and other things that could be helpful to you}
So just PM me and I would be glad to lay some info and resource tips on you. I never thought i would see a gear head here!
